Apatride

An apatride, derived from the French term for "stateless person," is an individual not recognized as a national by any state under the operation of its law. This lack of nationality can arise from various circumstances, including birth in a country that does not grant citizenship based on birth (jus soli), being born to parents who are themselves stateless or have lost their nationality, renouncing or being deprived of citizenship, or territorial changes affecting citizenship. Statelessness often leaves individuals vulnerable to discrimination and denial of basic rights, such as education, healthcare, and freedom of movement, as they lack the legal standing to access these services or to be protected by any government. Apatrides face significant barriers in international travel and often struggle to find legal employment, and their situation frequently constitutes human rights violations.

• Born in a territory where neither parents nor the place of birth automatically confer citizenship, the child became an Apatride, struggling to access basic necessities such as healthcare and education, leading to immense hardship for the family and an uncertain future for the child, as no nation would claim the child.
