Relating to or denoting the depths of the ocean between approximately 200 meters (660 feet) and 2,000 meters (6,600 feet), characterized by a relatively uniform temperature, high pressure, and the absence of sunlight. This zone is significantly deeper than the photic zone (sunlit upper layers) and shallower than the abyssal zone, which extends to the deepest parts of the ocean.
