The motion is typically rapid, erratic, and with little regard for surroundings or safety, suggesting a lack of restraint or planning in the movement. Careering meaning with examples

• The runaway train was careering down the tracks, its whistle screaming in warning. Passengers onboard, in a state of terror, braced themselves as the locomotive, with no breaks, ignored the stations and potential for destruction. It became increasingly clear that the situation was spiraling out of control.
• During the storm, the wind was careering through the narrow streets, tearing at awnings and scattering debris. The elements were relentless, howling and creating havoc with little concern for the lives that depended on its restraint. This uncontrollable surge caused panic and disruption throughout the town.
• After the car accident, the driver was careering into the hospital, desperate to get help for the injured passenger. He sped through red lights and weaving through traffic, putting his own safety at risk. It was a frantic rush, marked by a desire to get his friend to medical care as fast as possible.
