This means the outcome or consequence depends on whether specific circumstances are present or satisfied. It implies a degree of uncertainty, as the outcome is not guaranteed. Conditionality can apply to agreements, contracts, grants, behavior, or any situation where a prerequisite must be fulfilled for something else to happen. The essence is that 'if' something occurs, 'then' something else will follow, or 'unless' something happens, a consequence will result.

• The university offered him a conditional acceptance; he needed to maintain a certain GPA during his final semester. This offer would only become unconditional if he could successfully achieve this required standard.
