Corollary

A Corollary is a direct and often natural consequence or result that follows from a previously stated fact, proposition, or argument. It is something that logically flows from something else, akin to a deduction. The relationship can be likened to cause and effect, or a consequence stemming from a primary principle. Corollaries help to expand understanding by demonstrating the implications and practical applications of existing ideas or findings. They are often used to strengthen an argument or provide supporting evidence. The word implies an inherent connection, where the second statement is a secondary or lesser consequence of the first. The consequence can be either a necessary conclusion or a result that is probably true.

Corollary meaning with examples

• The study proved that regular exercise improves cardiovascular health. A Corollary of this finding is that people who exercise regularly are likely to have a lower risk of heart disease, strokes, and other related conditions. Public health campaigns often highlight the benefits of exercise, providing a detailed plan to ensure people of all ages can stay safe during such endeavors.
• Newton's law of gravity states that every particle attracts every other particle with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.
