This relationship doesn't necessarily imply causation; it merely suggests a pattern of association. The strength of the correlation is often quantified using a correlation coefficient, ranging from -1 to +1, indicating the direction and magnitude of the relationship. A positive correlation means both variables increase or decrease together, while a negative correlation suggests an inverse relationship.

Correlated meaning with examples

• Researchers found that there was a positive correlation between hours spent studying and exam scores. Students who studied more generally achieved higher grades, suggesting a predictable pattern. Further studies were needed to establish if a causal relationship existed, but at least a direct relation was observed. This supports further investigation, and potentially suggests that a study schedule should be enforced.

Individuals who consumed more sugary drinks tended to engage in less physical activity. This correlation indicated an association. This does not prove that sugary drinks cause inactivity, however a shift in behaviour is a key component in preventing health risks.

The fact that there was no strong correlation means that preferences of color do not indicate how wealthy someone is.
