A strong, often irresistible, desire or longing for something, typically a substance like food, alcohol, or drugs, or for a specific experience. cravings are characterized by intense mental focus on the desired object or activity, often accompanied by physical sensations like hunger pangs, withdrawal symptoms, or heightened emotional responses. They are often difficult to control, leading to compulsive behavior if the object of the craving is accessible. The intensity and duration of cravings can vary depending on the individual, the substance or activity, and environmental factors.

• After quitting smoking, John experienced intense nicotine cravings. These cravings manifested as a powerful urge to light a cigarette and a feeling of emptiness until he smoked. He tried to fight them but he found that the cravings were too intense, ultimately leading to his relapse and a regretful feeling.
