De-inflect

To remove or strip away inflectional morphology from a word or phrase. De-inflection involves returning a word to its base or root form, often simplifying complex grammatical structures. This process is common in language analysis, simplification, and translation, where the core meaning is prioritized over specific grammatical nuances. It essentially undoes the changes that indicate grammatical roles within a sentence.

De-inflect meaning with examples

• When translating, a common practice is to de-inflect verbs. For instance, translating "running" to "run" to avoid unnecessary tense complications that might not be present in the target language.
