Doula

A doula is a non-medical professional trained to provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman (and often her partner) before, during, and after childbirth. The doula's role is to empower the birthing person to make informed decisions and have a positive birth experience, focusing on their comfort, needs, and preferences. This support can encompass techniques for pain management, breastfeeding guidance, assistance with advocacy within the medical environment, and postpartum care. A doula does not perform medical procedures or give medical advice. The aim is to facilitate a healthy and fulfilling transition for the entire family. Doulas also attend cesarean births and support parents through adoption and bereavement. The doula's presence aims to create a nurturing environment for the mother and her family.
