Ejector

An ejector is a mechanical device or system designed to expel, discharge, or forcibly remove something from a specific location or containment. It typically operates by utilizing pressure differentials, such as steam or compressed air, to create a vacuum or high-velocity flow that carries the target substance or object away. Ejectors are commonly employed in various industrial, engineering, and medical applications to evacuate fluids, gases, solids, or even entire objects. Their purpose is to clear an area, transport materials, or initiate a process requiring removal of something.

Ejector meaning with examples

• In a rocket launch, the ejection seat acts as an ejector. When the pilot pulls the handle, a powerful explosive charge propels the seat and the pilot out of the aircraft. This ensures the pilot can safely bail out in emergencies.
• On an assembly line, the automated ejector arm swiftly removes finished products from the production line and places them on a conveyor belt. This fast ejection ensures the assembly line moves as quickly as possible, maximising production output.
• In a steam turbine system, the steam ejector extracts non-condensable gases from the condenser. This process maintains the necessary vacuum to improve the system’s efficiency and performance.
• A fuel injector in a car engine is also an ejector of sorts. It forcibly injects fuel into the engine's cylinders, enabling the engine to power the vehicle through fuel combustion.
