To act empathically is to step into another's shoes, acknowledging their perspective and responding with sensitivity and understanding, even if those feelings differ from your own. This includes active listening, validating emotions, and providing support where needed. It extends beyond mere sympathy, actively seeking to comprehend the depth and breadth of the other person's experience.

• The therapist listened empathically to her patient's story of loss, nodding and offering gentle words of comfort. Her ability to truly feel his pain fostered a strong therapeutic relationship, building trust and encouraging him to open up further. This deep connection aided the healing process.
