It usually comprises temporary structures like tents, yurts, or bivouacs, offering basic shelter and facilities. Encampments are established for various reasons, including military operations, survival situations, nomadic lifestyles, outdoor recreation (camping), and social gatherings or festivals. The design, size, and level of amenities in an encampment vary widely depending on its purpose and the resources available. Often it is constructed on terrain that is deemed suitable and safe by the group of people making it. An encampment typically includes sleeping quarters, cooking areas, latrines, and sometimes areas for recreation or administrative functions.
