Fever

Fever, also known as pyrexia, is a temporary increase in the body's core temperature above the normal range, typically caused by an infection or illness. This elevation often indicates the body's immune system is fighting off a foreign invader like bacteria or a virus. The hypothalamus, the body's internal thermostat, resets to a higher temperature to create an unfavorable environment for the pathogen, while boosting immune cell activity. Fevers are often accompanied by symptoms like chills, sweating, fatigue, and body aches. Prolonged or high fevers require medical attention.

• After the flu shot, Sarah developed a mild fever, indicating her body was building immunity. Her doctor advised her to rest and take some ibuprofen to alleviate the aches and lower the fever. It was a short-lived response and cleared up in a day or so, proving the vaccine was indeed effective.
