Fichu

A fichu is a light, often decorative, piece of fabric, typically square or rectangular, worn by women to fill in the low neckline of a dress or bodice. It can be draped around the neck and shoulders, or crossed over the bosom. Fichus were particularly fashionable from the 17th to the 19th centuries and served both a practical purpose (providing warmth and modesty) and an aesthetic one (adding embellishment and highlighting the silhouette). They are often made of lace, linen, or muslin.
