In visual contexts, it manifests as visible specks or 'noise' that detract from clarity and detail. In audio, it can be perceived as static, hiss, or other undesirable background sounds. The extent of graininess is often related to factors like film speed, sensor size, and the quality of the recording or reproduction process. It can be a desired aesthetic effect in some artistic styles (e.g., adding a vintage feel) but is generally undesirable when attempting to achieve high fidelity or realistic representations. The term encapsulates a sense of imperfection or lack of refinement in the final product.

Graininess meaning with examples
