A harangue is a lengthy and aggressive speech, often delivered publicly. It's typically characterized by strong opinions, criticism, and a forceful, sometimes scolding, tone. harangues can be used to persuade, denounce, or simply express outrage. They often lack the reasoned arguments and balanced perspective of a debate and can veer into ranting or personal attacks. • The politician launched into a lengthy harangue against his opponents, filled with exaggerated claims and personal insults. He railed against their policies, dismissing them as 'treasonous' and 'destructive,' completely avoiding any objective discussion of the facts. The crowd was clearly divided; some were angered by his vitriol while others cheered him on.
• The disgruntled employee delivered a fiery harangue at the company-wide meeting, listing all his grievances and accusing management of unfair treatment. His emotional outburst, though passionate, failed to gain any sympathy, since most employees did not share his perspectives. He disrupted the meeting and was later called to Human Resources.
