High-drag refers to an aerodynamic property or design characterized by significant resistance to motion through a fluid, typically air. This resistance, also known as drag, arises from various factors, including the shape, surface roughness, and orientation of an object. high-drag designs tend to experience a greater force opposing their movement, consequently requiring more energy or power to maintain a given velocity. This attribute is often undesirable in applications prioritizing speed or efficiency but can be beneficial in specific scenarios, such as generating lift or slowing an object.

• The classic, boxy design of older SUVs, while robust, often resulted in a high-drag coefficient. This led to decreased fuel efficiency compared to more streamlined vehicles. Their shape created significant air resistance, especially at highway speeds, causing the engine to work harder to maintain speed and increase fuel consumption for drivers.
• Parachutes are intentionally designed with a high-drag profile. The large surface area and complex shape of a parachute are meant to maximize air resistance. This slow the descent of the parachutist safely, distributing the force of the fall over a longer period and a wider surface area. The drag is the key to their function.
