Kryptonite
A fictional radioactive element from the planet Krypton, the home world of Superman. It is typically depicted in various forms, most commonly green, and emits radiation that weakens or negates the powers of Kryptonians, making them vulnerable. Different variations of kryptonite, such as red, blue, and gold, have been introduced in different iterations of the Superman story, each with unique and often temporary effects, ranging from inducing bizarre behavior and memory loss to removing superpowers altogether. Exposure to kryptonite can be lethal, although the extent and speed of the harm can vary depending on exposure type and form. kryptonite became such a cornerstone of the Superman lore that it is often used as a metaphor for anything that represents a significant weakness or vulnerability.
