Lawyer-speak refers to the specialized jargon, complex sentence structures, and often obscure vocabulary characteristic of legal professionals. This language is frequently used in legal documents, court proceedings, and communications within the legal field. It can be difficult for non-lawyers to understand due to its technical nature and the prevalence of archaic terms, Latin phrases, and formal conventions. The purpose is sometimes clarity, precision and the avoidance of ambiguity but other times, intentional obfuscation can be deployed. Ultimately, lawyer-speak can serve to create distance between legal experts and the general public.
