Mahayana

Mahayana (Sanskrit: महायान, Mahāyāna, literally the "Great Vehicle") is one of the two main existing branches of Buddhism. Characterized by its inclusive nature, it emphasizes the bodhisattva path, the altruistic aim of attaining Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. This branch of Buddhism emerged in India around the 1st century CE and later spread to East Asia, Tibet, and other regions.
