Mandibula

The mandibula, in zoology and anatomy, refers to the lower jawbone, often a single structure, composed of two fused halves in mammals. It is the primary bone responsible for mastication (chewing) and the support of the lower teeth. The mandibula articulates with the temporal bone of the skull at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), allowing for a wide range of movements including depression, elevation, protrusion, retrusion, and lateral excursion.
