Mixture

A mixture is a substance formed by combining two or more substances (elements or compounds) where no chemical reaction occurs. The components of a mixture retain their individual properties and can usually be separated by physical means. Mixtures can be homogeneous (uniform composition throughout) or heterogeneous (non-uniform composition). The proportions of the components in a mixture can vary, unlike compounds where the ratio is fixed. The final properties of a mixture depend on the properties and proportions of its constituents.

• The baker carefully combined flour, sugar, and butter to create a cake batter, a delicious mixture. She then added eggs and milk for extra binding. After the dough was complete the bakery chef added chocolate chips into the mixture. The sweet mixture then went into the oven.
