Mollusc

A mollusc is an invertebrate animal belonging to the phylum Mollusca. Molluscs are characterized by a soft body, often enclosed in a hard, protective shell made of calcium carbonate, though some have internal shells or no shell at all. This diverse group includes creatures like snails, slugs, clams, oysters, octopuses, and squids. They typically possess a mantle (a fleshy covering), a muscular foot used for locomotion, and a radula (a rasping tongue used for feeding in most groups). Molluscs inhabit various environments, from marine and freshwater to terrestrial habitats, and play vital roles in ecosystems. They are a very successful and diverse group, with over 85,000 living species currently known and many thousands of extinct species.
