Nepheline

Nepheline is a feldspathoid mineral, a tectosilicate, meaning it’s composed of a framework of linked silicate tetrahedra. It's a relatively uncommon but important rock-forming mineral, often found in igneous rocks with low silica content, like nepheline syenite, phonolite, and some pegmatites. Its chemical formula is (Na,K)AlSiO4. nepheline typically appears in shades of grey, white, yellow, or reddish-brown, and can have a greasy luster. It's valued in certain industries, such as the ceramic and glass manufacturing industries due to its high alumina and alkali content which contribute to fluxing. Nepheline's relatively low hardness and solubility in acids distinguish it from other similar minerals. It's an indicator of specific geological conditions, aiding geologists in rock classification.
