Non-streaming refers to activities, content delivery methods, or data processing techniques that do not involve a continuous, real-time flow of data. Unlike streaming, where data is transmitted and consumed concurrently, Non-streaming methods typically involve downloading or accessing a complete file or dataset before it can be used. This encompasses scenarios like downloading movies, accessing static web pages, or working with pre-recorded audio files. The core aspect is a delayed or discrete consumption of data, contrasting with the immediate nature of streaming.
Non-streaming meaning with examples
- Downloading a high-definition movie from an online store is a classic example of Non-streaming content consumption. The entire film is downloaded to the user's device before playback begins, allowing for offline viewing. This contrasts sharply with streaming services like Netflix, where the movie starts playing as soon as a portion is downloaded.
- Reading a digital document that you have saved offline falls into the category of Non-streaming access. The whole file resides locally, ready to be opened. You don't require a continuous internet connection or any live data transmission to be able to read through your document.
