It's a fundamental element of language, enabling us to express what isn't, what isn't the case, or what is unwanted or excluded. Not meaning with examples

• I am not going to the party tonight. My invitation got lost, so I decided against going. It's also raining, which means I don't want to get soaked. Considering these things made it an easy decision to stay home.
• The book is not very interesting. The plot line isn't great, and the characters have no substance. It isn't the style of writing that I enjoy. It's my opinion that it lacks the element of a captivating read, in my view.
• She is not feeling well today. She is very sick. She did not get enough rest and feels run down. She should not be in school and needs a doctor's visit, as soon as possible.
• The door is not locked. It's still unlocked at 3:00 in the morning! I tried the handle, it's wide open. It's an opportunity to go out and enjoy the night, but the kids are asleep.
• They did not finish their homework. The assignment was not completed, and the teacher was very disappointed. Their excuses were not accepted, as they should be penalized. They should improve their performance and aim for better grades.
