It's the act of speaking or acting in a manner considered inappropriately familiar or disrespectful to someone, demonstrating a lack of proper respect or decorum. The tone might be saucy, sharp, or impertinent, depending on the context, it is sometimes even used with the implication of intelligence and wit. It suggests a degree of overconfidence or disregard for social norms.
