A planet is a celestial body that orbits a star or stellar remnant, is massive enough for its gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. Planets are not stars, nor are they moons. Generally, planets do not emit their own light and are visible due to the reflection of light from their host star. There are eight recognized planets in our solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
