The term underscores the tentative nature of the initial assertion, acknowledging that it is presented as a starting point rather than an established fact. The process can also encompass a set of assumptions upon which reasoning is based, creating a framework for further investigation. It allows for the exploration of theoretical possibilities and the advancement of knowledge through reasoned debate and empirical verification or rebuttal. Often used in scholarly, scientific and philosophical discourse. It can be a declaration of facts, premises, or arguments in the presence of a logical proof.
