Priming is a psychological phenomenon where exposure to a stimulus influences a response to a subsequent stimulus. It works by activating specific concepts or associations in memory, making them more accessible and likely to be used in later judgments or behaviors. The initial stimulus, often subtle or unconscious, acts as a "primer," preparing the mind for related information. • Participants were shown images of elderly people before a memory test (prime). This subtly activated concepts related to aging. • In a study, participants read words related to rudeness or politeness (prime). Later, they were presented with a task that involved interrupting a conversation.
