Promisees

Promisees are the individuals or entities to whom a promise is made. They are the recipients of the commitment and are entitled to expect that the promisor will fulfill the terms of the promise. This applies to contracts, informal agreements, or even statements of intent. The rights and obligations of a promisee depend on the nature of the promise and the context in which it was made. If the promise is breached, the promisee may have legal recourse or grounds for a complaint, depending on the circumstances and nature of the promise. Understanding who the promisees are is fundamental to interpreting a promise and defining obligations.

Promisees meaning with examples

• In the sales contract, the *promisee* was the buying company, who anticipated that the goods would be delivered by the agreed upon date. When the delivery was late, the buying company, as the promisee, claimed the contract had been breached. They sought compensation for the damage done as a direct result of the late shipment.
• The charity's promisees were the underprivileged children, and their families, who were dependent on the food and supplies donated. When funds dwindled and supplies ran low, the charity was unable to fulfill its promises, leading to suffering for the vulnerable groups who were its promisees. The breach of the charity's promise resulted in a lot of issues.
• As an event planner, the promisees were the clients who had paid for their service and had certain expectations. The planner provided several services to the clients, like scheduling, booking bands, and organizing guest lists. When the services were not performed to the standards of the promisees, some clients withheld payments as compensation for the breach.
• In the will, the promisees are the heirs and beneficiaries named to receive certain assets. Upon the death of the testator, the promisees, also known as beneficiaries, become entitled to the gifts and inheritance outlined in the will. Any challenges to the distribution of assets, are usually initiated by the promisees themselves.
