Prothorax

The prothorax is the first segment of the thorax in an insect, located directly behind the head and connected to it via a narrow neck or membrane. It's a crucial structure for insect movement and support, providing an attachment point for the first pair of legs and often bearing a pair of protective plates called pronota. It does not bear wings in most insects. Its size, shape, and presence of pronota are key features used in insect identification and classification.
