Scapegoatism is the practice of blaming an individual or group for the actions or shortcomings of others, often to deflect blame or responsibility from the true culprits. This displacement of guilt serves to protect the status quo, maintain social cohesion, or provide a target for collective anger and frustration. It frequently involves prejudice, discrimination, and the systematic persecution of the designated scapegoat. The scapegoat may be real or symbolic and is often a member of a minority group, a person with disabilities, or someone who is easily marginalized.
