Scotopic refers to the vision of the eye under low light conditions. This type of vision is primarily mediated by rod cells in the retina, which are highly sensitive to light but do not perceive color. scotopic vision is crucial for seeing in darkness or dim environments, where color perception is diminished or absent. It results in lower visual acuity than photopic vision, which is used in brighter conditions, and contributes to our ability to navigate and perceive shapes and movement in the dark. The process relies on the absorption of light by rhodopsin in the rod cells, which triggers a cascade of events leading to the neural signals to the brain.
