Strandline

A strandline is a narrow band of debris, organic matter (such as seaweed, shells, and driftwood), and sediment deposited along a shoreline by the action of waves and tides. It marks the high-water mark, often reflecting the reach of storm surges and providing a visible indicator of coastal processes. Strandlines are dynamic, constantly shifting in response to wind, wave energy, and currents. They play a significant role in coastal ecosystems by providing habitat for invertebrates, concentrating nutrients, and acting as a physical buffer for the shoreline, while offering valuable evidence to the study of environmental change.

Strandline meaning with examples
