Thrush

Thrush refers to two distinct concepts. Primarily, it describes a common fungal infection, often caused by the Candida albicans yeast, affecting the mouth (oral thrush), vagina (vaginal thrush), or other moist areas of the body. This infection manifests as white, raised patches or sores. Secondly, thrush denotes a bird belonging to the family Turdidae, typically characterized by a melodious song and often brownish plumage, including popular varieties like the song thrush and mistle thrush. The term derives from Old English, offering evidence to the long term association of the infection and bird to their surroundings.
