Tollway

A tollway is a highway or road where drivers must pay a fee, or toll, to use it. These fees are typically collected at toll booths, electronic tolling systems (like transponders), or a combination of both. The purpose of a tollway is usually to generate revenue for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the road, and sometimes, to manage traffic flow by discouraging excessive use. They often offer a quicker, less congested route compared to free alternative roads, but at a financial cost. The usage of tollways can also fluctuate depending on the time of day, with higher charges during peak hours.

• Driving on the new interstate tollway significantly reduced my commute time. However, the constant stopping at the toll booths was quite inconvenient. I am considering investing in an electronic transponder to avoid waiting in line and use the electronic lanes that bypass the toll booths. This might be a solution to my daily drives and the congestion.
