The objective can be to either reset the configuration to a simpler one, or to create a new configuration.

• After a failed software update, the technician began the long process of unconfiguring the network server, reverting to the previous stable version and its associated configurations. It involved uninstalling new components, and reverting setting changes to eliminate potential conflicts to then try another upgrade, hopefully this time being successful.
