Light-adapted refers to the state of the visual system when it has adjusted to high levels of illumination. This process, also known as photopic vision, involves the cones of the retina primarily. When the eyes are light-adapted, sensitivity to light is significantly reduced, allowing for detailed color vision and the perception of fine details in bright environments. Rods, responsible for low-light vision, become less active, and the visual system focuses on the cones for optimal visual acuity under bright conditions. It contrasts with dark adaptation, where the eyes adjust to low-light levels.
