Mania

Mania is a psychological condition characterized by abnormally elevated or irritable mood, excessive energy, racing thoughts, and impaired judgment. It often involves grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, pressured speech, and impulsive behaviors. It is a core symptom of bipolar disorder, but can also arise in other conditions or be induced by substances. The intensity of manic episodes can range from mild (hypomania) to severe, potentially requiring hospitalization. The experience can be exhilarating, but also destructive, leading to financial ruin, strained relationships, and dangerous actions.

• After receiving a promotion, John experienced a manic episode. He spent thousands on luxury goods, made grandiose business plans, and alienated his colleagues with his boastful behavior.
