Mooching is the act of habitually requesting or receiving things, especially food, money, or favors, from others without giving anything in return. It often implies taking advantage of generosity and can carry a negative connotation of laziness or a lack of responsibility. A person who mooches is often perceived as being a freeloader, relying on the kindness of others for their sustenance or entertainment instead of earning their own. The term suggests a parasitic relationship where one benefits disproportionately at the expense of another.
