Oxidation is a chemical reaction that involves the loss of electrons by a molecule, atom, or ion. It often, but not always, involves the reaction of a substance with oxygen. The process typically results in an increase in the oxidation state of the substance. oxidation is fundamental to many biological and industrial processes, including cellular respiration, the corrosion of metals, and the production of various chemical compounds.
