Reliving refers to experiencing or mentally revisiting past events, emotions, or experiences as if they were happening again in the present. It involves recalling sensory details, feelings, and thoughts associated with the original event, often with a strong sense of emotional intensity. This can occur consciously, through deliberate recollection, or unconsciously, through involuntary flashbacks or intrusive thoughts. The act of reliving can be triggered by various cues, such as specific locations, smells, sounds, or conversations. • After visiting her childhood home, Sarah found herself reliving fond memories of family gatherings, the scent of her grandmother's baking filling her mind's eye.
