Un-aerodynamic describes an object or shape that does not move efficiently through air or other gases due to its form. Such an object experiences significant air resistance (drag), requiring more energy to move at a given speed. This inefficiency arises from features like sharp edges, irregular surfaces, or a lack of streamlining, which disrupt the smooth flow of air around it. This typically results in increased fuel consumption, slower speeds, and instability when in motion. Effective aerodynamics are essential in vehicle design, aviation, and other applications where minimizing air resistance is crucial for performance.

Un-aerodynamic meaning with examples

• The boxy design of the old delivery truck made it incredibly un-aerodynamic, contributing to poor fuel efficiency on highway runs. Its flat front and exposed corners generated significant drag. This caused increased operational costs for the company. A sleeker, more rounded shape would allow for faster speeds and reduced fuel use. It was not able to compete.
• A brick, with its sharp edges and flat surfaces, is a classic example of an un-aerodynamic object. When thrown, its irregular shape causes air to swirl and resist its motion. This results in a short, unpredictable trajectory and a slow flight path. Its poor aerodynamics means it cannot travel far at all.
