A zombi is a reanimated corpse, typically controlled by supernatural forces, most commonly associated with Haitian Vodou and popular culture. The concept usually involves a dead human being brought back to a semblance of life, often through necromancy, magic, or viral infection, and deprived of free will, existing only to serve the will of the controller. They're often depicted as mindless, decaying, and ravenous for flesh or brains. Modern interpretations also include mutated versions, reflecting various fears, anxieties, and social critiques. The mythology, and resulting pop culture, explores themes of death, fear of the unknown, societal breakdown, and the loss of humanity.
