Decongeal
To transform a substance from a solid or thickened, viscous state back to a more fluid or liquid state; to reverse the process of congealing. This typically involves applying heat, introducing a solvent, or otherwise manipulating the environment to disrupt the bonds or interactions that hold the substance in a solidified form. The term implies a deliberate action to restore a substance to its original, more mobile, state, or at least to make it flow again. This contrasts with natural melting processes, as decongealing often addresses a state beyond mere solidification, involving a substantial thickening or solidifying. The process can be applied to food, liquids, and biological substances.
Decongeal meaning with examples
- The chef gently heated the congealed gravy, carefully stirring to begin to decongeal the thickened sauce. This involved introducing small amounts of warm stock and constant agitation to achieve the desired consistency, making it smooth and pourable again.
